Reading fuel levels.

Added by Simon Petersson about 4 years ago

Hi!
We want to calculate the maximum range of the vehicle based on the fuel economy. Eg. X km to empty.
However, when we read the fuel level, we get how many percent of the tank that is filled.

Is it possible to read the current fuel level in litres? Or read the maximum capacity of the tank?

Alternativly if it is possible to read a value that is kilometers or hours to empty tank?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Best regards! /Truckerboys.

Hello Simon!

Unfortunately the FMS specification does not have any signal defined for the current fuel level in liter or to read the maximum capacity of the tank.
Nor is there any signal that will return time or kilometers until empty tank.

What I would do is to either to decide upon the fuel capacity and then use the FMS_FUEL_RATE to calculate the remaining time.

or

Use the FMS_FUEL_RATE (Liter / h) together with the FMS_FUEL_LEVEL_1 (%) to decide upon the time by calculating how many % of the fuel capacity is being drained over a time period.

I hope this will help you.

Other signals missing is e.g. related to electrical vehicles. This will be a future/separate topic to discuss.
